Please join us as we explore historic Marblehead on a morning walk, lunch, a tour of the Lee Mansion, and an afternoon walk.

When and where

9 am to 11 am: Marblehead 17th Century Walking Tour

This walk focuses on the early settlement of Marblehead (up to 1715) and includes a discussion of how what was happening in England in the 1600s affected New England. This tour includes a walk along the scenic coastline.

Meet at the intersection of Beacon and Norman Streets.  Walk will end at the restaurants on Front Street.

$5/person paid directly to our guide, Judy Anderson. Judy is a social and architectural historian focused on Marblehead.  She has worked with the Jeremiah Lee Mansion for 16 years, including serving as the site’s curator for a decade.

11:00 am to 1 pm: Lunch at The Barnacle or The Landing Restaurant

1:00 – 2:00 pm: Lee Mansion Tour 

Engaging folk art paintings across the street at the Marblehead Museum, 170 Washington St. (self-guided)

$10/person paid at the Mansion. 45-min. tour with Lee Mansion guide(s).

Judy Anderson wrote a book about the Mansion’s rare 18th c. English painted wall murals. The book can be purchased at the museum or after the tour from Judy.  

The Lee Mansion has been owned and preserved by the Marblehead Museum & Historical Society since 1909.

2:30 – 4:30 pm: Marblehead 18th Century Walking Tour

This tour focuses on the mid-18th c. downtown, when Marblehead was British North America’s 6th most populous town. 

It starts one block up the hill from the Lee Mansion, in the museum in Abbot Hall (red brick building with clock tower at 188 Washington Street). Ends at 1727 Old Town House in Market Square, one block up from The Landing Restaurant.

Parking

If you’re coming for the morning tour, park on either side of Norman Street.

If you’re coming for lunch or the afternoon tour, park behind or beside Abbot Hall at 188 Washington Street, but not on Washington Street).

If you plan to spend the entire day, Judy will accompany you back to Norman St. (1 mile) on foot or by car at the end of the day.  (Here’s the route.)
