We’re headed to Colonial Newport for the day, with a tour of their archives, lunch at the historic White Horse Tavern, and a walking tour of Colonial Newport.

Based on our current arrangement with the guides in Newport, this is limited to 12 people.  If you are interested in going, please register below now. (Note that there won’t be refunds for cancellations, but you can substitute someone else if you’re not able to attend.)

If there are significantly more people who are interested in attending, we’ll see if we can add another guide, so please send me a note if it’s sold out before you’ve had a chance to register.

When and where

Behind the Scenes at the Newport Historical Society

10:00 am – 11:00 am

Our small private tour will go behind the scenes to view items from the collection of the Newport Historical Society that are seldom on exhibit.

This will take place at the Resource Center, which is home to the Newport Historical Society’s main offices, library, special collections reading room, and secure collections storage, which houses 10,000 objects, 12,000 books, over 1,500 linear feet of manuscript materials, and more than 200,000 photographs.

Meet at the Newport Historical Society Resource Center at 82 Touro Street

The entrance to the White Horse Tavern in NewportLunch and exploring Colonial Newport on our own

11:00 am – 1:30 pm

We’re on our own for lunch, and I’m heading to The White Horse Tavern (pictured), which opened in 1673 and is the oldest tavern in America.

Be sure and note their strict dress code: “‘Country Club’ or ‘Business Casual’ please.  Jackets are not required but collared shirts are expected.  Please remove hats in our establishment and mobile phones should be turned off so as not to disturb your fellow diners.”

The White Horse Tavern is at 26 Marlborough Street

If you’re interested in driving or having someone ride with you, send me a note after you’ve registered and indicate where you live and what you’re looking for (to ride along with someone else or drive down and take others with you).

Registration

Please register now. Unlike most of our other events, there won’t be refunds for cancellations since the fees are fixed group fees, though you’re welcome to have someone else take your place.
