A private tour of the King Caesar House and the Bradford House with Erin McGough, Executive Director and Historian/Archivist, Carolyn Ravenscroft of the Duxbury Rural and Historical Society.
We will tour the houses below, learn about the history of Duxbury and its role in global shipping and trade, and see some archival items and collections objects that are not on display.
The King Caesar House
The King Caesar House was owned by Ezra Weston II (“King Caesar”), Duxbury’s largest shipbuilder. It is furnished with antiques and maritime treasures exemplifying Duxbury’s shipbuilding era.
The Bradford House
Sarah Hickling Bradford supervised the initial construction stages of this Federal-style home which bears the family name while her husband, Capt. Gershom Bradford, was held captive by the French. For the remainder of the 19th century following Gershom’s death in 1869, the house was owned and operated by women in an age when female autonomy was rare. During this time the family was active in many of the social movements of the day and all four Bradford daughters raised in the house went on become accomplished women.
This tour can accommodate a maximum of 15 people.

When
June 2 at 10 a.m. and lasting about two hours. Bumpus Park, across the street from the King Caesar House, will be the perfect place for a picnic lunch, weather permitting, or we might head down the road to Duxbury Beach where there are some places to eat.
Where
We will start at the Bradford House at 931 Tremont Street and end the tour at King Caesar House.
